🖤 Her Personal Coach Gave Her After-hour Lessons - Part 2
🌶️ The romantic scene of the story begins
Spice Level: Read Part 1 first if you haven’t yet. This is the start of the story’s romantic scene. The heat begins in Part 3.
What a stupid fucking mistake.
He should have known better than to work out by the alley. The cover of darkness was never enough to stay safe. He was slipping. Time away from the pack was making him soft. More human… And that’s something he would never be, no matter how much he hoped for it.
The following day, he unlocked the gym doors and started setting things up. The first group session wasn’t for another hour, but he enjoyed this quiet time. Drinking coffee, thinking, and visualizing what he would have to do next. There was always something he’d have to do next. He could never relax and live an everyday life for very long.
A little bell dinged, alerting him that someone had entered through the front door. Without looking up from his notes, he said, “We’re not open yet. Come back in an hour!”
“Wow, is that how you greet an old friend?”
Lucas closed his eyes and sighed. He knew that deep voice. Lifting his head, he asked, “Are we, Drake? Still friends, that is?”
The huge rancher walked across the gym to the counter where he was sitting. He was smiling for once and seemed happy to see him. Lucas wasn’t sure he could say the same. A visit from Drake wasn’t a casual buddy dropping by to check in on you. Something was up.
“Friends? Probably not. Brothers? Fucking always, man. Always. I don’t care what’s happened. You’re still one of us, and you’ll always be our brother, whether you like it or not.”
Lucas stood up and walked around to shake his hand. He eyed the big man suspiciously. “Why are you here? What do you want?”
Drake scanned the gym. “Nice little setup you have here. I’m glad things are working out for you. We still miss you at the ranch, but I understand why you left. I wish you’d come back, though. How many years do you think you can stay in this town?”
Lucas frowned. “It hasn’t been that long. I’ve got time.”
“Yeah, and then what? Will you milk this until people start talking about you behind your back? Wondering why you look so good for your age. Wondering why you’re so fucking strong. One day, the comments will stop being behind your back, and they’ll show up on your doorstep. We both know how that ends.”
Lucas shrugged. “I’ll deal with it when the time comes. Drake, I appreciate the concern. But I’m not returning to the pack. That part of my life is gone.”
“Suit yourself, man. The offer stands. If shit goes sideways, we’ll be there for you. Like I said, you’ll always be one of us.”
“Is that it?” he asked the other Were.
Drake looked down at his feet uncomfortably before responding. “Well, some weird shit is going down, and it’s about to get much worse. We had an interesting human visitor at our last bonfire party. He wasn’t exactly normal. Believe it or not, Freja didn’t kill him. Actually, she made some sort of deal with him.”
Lucas snorted in disbelief. “Freja? Well, now I know the world is ending. What kind of deal?”
“I don’t know all the details, but a darkness that worries the Others is coming. I don’t think we’ll be able to sit this one out. We’re hearing rumors that the large pack in the desert is picking sides, which ain’t good news for us. If it means what we think it means, you’ll want to be on the right side of this thing, too.”
Before he could respond, the front door dinged again. They both looked over and saw Sunny walking in.
Drake winked at Lucas and turned to leave. “Think about what I said. You’ll always have a home with us.”
He walked across the gym, towering over the woman as he drew near. “Morning, ma’am.” he rumbled in his gravelly voice. With one look back at Lucas, he pushed the door open and was gone.
“Who was that mountain? A new client?” she asked.
“No, just an old friend. Anyway, what are you doing here today? I thought our session wasn’t until next week.”
“It isn’t—wasn’t—I should say. I stopped by to tell you that I’m quitting the gym.”
Lucas wrinkled his brow and stared at her. “What?! Seriously? You’re that angry with me that you’re gonna quit?”
“Yep, I can work out at any gym. But I don’t have another friend I can ask out. So, this is your last chance. Since I’m no longer your client, you can stop by and pick me up tomorrow. But, I think it’s your turn to find a way to make it up to me.”
She shrugged, turned around, and walked out of the gym. He stared after her.
What in the hell was going on today? Was the whole world going crazy?
Well, at least he had a day to plan something amazing. He had a feeling he’d better not fuck it up this time…
The next morning, Lucas packed his truck with a picnic basket, cooler, and large quilted blanket. He had already called Sunny and asked if she could be ready for a day outside. He didn’t offer any details, wanting this to be a surprise. A wonderful surprise if she enjoyed his choice. A nightmare if she hated it. He’d find out soon enough.
He pulled up to her house and saw her relaxing on a large porch swing out front. She noticed him and hopped off to slowly walk down the sidewalk, ensuring he had a good view of the lady who would be his date for the day.
He hadn’t seen her very often outside the gym. She had her long, dark hair pulled back in a ponytail and wore a black shirt, sandals, and cutoff shorts. He couldn’t stop staring at her long, toned legs. He, of all people, should know how much she worked out, but still. Wow.
He jumped out of the truck and walked around to open the door for her. “Hey, you look great!”
“Thanks! So far, so good. You’re off to a great start. Now, where are you taking me?”
He smiled. “Ah, that’s my little secret. A place I like to go to get away from everything and everyone. It’s a bit of a drive, but worth it. You’ll see.”
She shook her head. “Ok, Mr. Mysterious. I guess I’ll trust you.”
They drove out of town and down the highway heading west. A few miles out, he exited on a gravel road that crossed a meandering river and wound through the dense forest to the north. They climbed higher and higher into the foothills of the dark mountain range, the road twisting and turning through what felt like an endless series of switchbacks.
Then, he turned between the trees onto an even smaller single-track dirt road she hadn’t noticed. They bounced in the seat and held on while he navigated the rough trail until it finally emerged from the forest and ended on the shore of a beautiful turquoise lake nestled right up against the base of the mountain looming overhead. The sunlight sparkled off the rippling surface as a gentle summer breeze made the lush meadow grass dance.
She jumped out as the truck came to a stop, spinning around to take in the view. “Ok, wow. You were right. That drive was worth it. I didn’t even know this lake was here! How did you find it?”
He raised his eyebrows and shrugged. “Umm, I like to explore the forest when I feel the urge. I just got lucky one day and stumbled across this.”
He grabbed the basket, cooler, and blanket from the truck bed and walked down to the water’s edge. She joined him and helped him spread the blanket before diving into the basket to see what he had brought.
“Mmmm… mixed olives, cheeses, crackers, a baguette, and what’s this? Oh my… aged prosciutto and a little box of chocolates. Who knew that personal trainers could have such good taste?”
He shook his head. “Hey! I’m not some Neanderthal just because I enjoy lifting weights. Alright, I hope you like white wine. I have a sauvignon blanc chilling in the cooler, too.”
Sunny smiled. “Oh, perfect choice, sir. I’d love a glass right now. That was a long drive.”
He opened the bottle and poured two glasses. Handing her one, he said, “Here’s to an old friend quitting the gym and making time for a picnic with me.”
She clinked her glass against his and replied with a raised eyebrow, “Here’s to an old friend finally realizing there’s a reason his friend came into his gym so often.”
He blushed and quickly took a sip of his wine…
